English: On the mountainous road winding through southwestern Uganda (between the city of Kabale and the town of Kisoro) a young craftsman poses for a photograph alongside a wooden bicycle of his own hand. In Kisoro (~30 kilometers away), a mural featuring a very similar item exists on the walls of the Golden Monkey Hotel. Although this vehicle may not have been constructed according to a blueprint of the boy's own creation, it's definitely an impressive object. The wheels are set on a wooden fork, held in place by the weight of the rider. Although it has no braked and isn't nearly as smooth as a traditional bicycle, it can certainly be used (with several attempts) to successfully roll -- and even steer -- down the steep hills surrounding Lake Bunyoni. However, such a test drive may not be for the feint of heart.
