Un Estat sobeiran[1] es una entitat juridica non fisica del sistèma legal internacional qu'es representada per un govèrn centralizat que ten una autoritat suprema e independenta sus una aira geografica.[2] Possedís una populacion permanenta, un govèrn, e la capacitat de tenir de relacions amb d'autres estats sobeirans.[3] Es tanben generalament considerat coma un estat que non es dependent ni subjècte de cap autre poténcia o estat.[4][5]

Lo tèrme país es sovent colloquialament utilizat per referir-se a d'estats sobeirans, e mai se designe, a l'origina, sonque una region geografica, e pòt doncas èsser somés a l'autoritat d'un govèrn exterior que contraròtla aquela region. Anglatèrra, Escòcia e Galas son d'exemples de païses que non son d'estats, dempuèi l'existéncia del Reialme Unit.
